About Betsey:

Betsey Ervin is an artist who embraces the beauty of life’s imperfections. Born in Boston, she grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where her creative imagination was nurtured in a serene environment. With parents immersed in the medical field—her dad a physician and her mom a physical and occupational therapist—Betsey often found herself in solitude, allowing her artistic side to flourish. Her mother, who balanced life as a woodturning artist and an academic, passed on a love for craftsmanship that deeply influenced Betsey. Growing up with three brothers and several family dogs, Betsey’s childhood was a lively canvas painted with frequent travels. She lived in places like Japan, England, and Spain with her children, which enriched her appreciation for diverse cultures and everyday beauty. Though she’s always had a knack for creativity, Betsey didn’t dive into her art career until she turned 40. Before that, she studied Spanish and worked as an elementary teacher. Eventually, career burnout and her growing family made her rethink her path. Leaving behind her for-profit education job, she fully plunged into the world of art. Betsey is a self-taught metalsmith and painter. Her work celebrates imperfections, inspired by her personal journey of finding beauty in unexpected places. She creates from her studios in Mazatlan, Mexico, and Charlotte, NC, constantly exploring these themes in her projects. Her style is distinctive, shaped by relentless practice and experimentation. As a member of the Charlotte Artists’ Guild, Betsey’s art has gained international recognition and is featured at Art Rewards in Oslo. Betsey Ervin’s art offers moments of reflection and appreciation amidst life’s chaos, inviting audiences and collectors to engage in a conversation about the unique and imperfect.
