ABOUT MARIE-CAROLINE:
Upgraded to Applied Arts in Besançon in 1999. DEUG History of ART 2001. Became a Specialized Educator : use of artistic mediations with adults and children in social and psychological difficuties : clay, paintings, tales. And today she is painting.
Her personal presentation is also completely original and resembles an introspection of her own creative capacity rather than a listing of her ‘short’ artistic history. Her approach is synonymous with the exploration of herself through her own artistic expression: she oscillates between a figurative and an abstract approach. She appreciates being continually in a kind of exercise in mastering the gesture, even in concentration, in the desire to represent reality. At other times, she enjoys the more abstract expressiveness without a defined desire in the performance. Then she gets the desire for a more unstructured research, a game of shapes, more or less defined colours : games of balance where the pleasure of abandonment is very present. She doses the water she uses for a concentration of pigments or a search for transparency. Today her research and her work focus on the search for a balance between figurative and abstraction. There is something in her two ways of painting that transcends her and that she alone can offer to the world. Many thoughts run through her when she paints. The pictures she creates are like ‘images of thought’. She puts shapes, lines and colours into both the construction of thoughts and their translation. She explores painting as if she were about to discover the world of nature. It is therefore a real adventure to explore and transfigure her emotions, her feelings, her culture, her beliefs. It is a journey between his interior world and the exterior world: the gateway is the work of art.
ARTISTIC PRESENTATION:
Painting is an exercise in visualizing my different inner states, my thoughts on the world and about the others. It is a magnificent space for transforming everything that “nourishes” me: my readings, meetings, philosophical themes, music … everything is found in my paintings. I am the one who knows the meaning of certain lines, certain curves, the colors… why they meet, constrain, arise or disappear. My paintings are like thought-images. I write about my works to convey meaning, but whoever looks at my painting will recreate their own interpretation: it will be a unique encounter. The place of painting is a magical place of transformations, of meeting with oneself and of transmission :creation is so moving, when it appears. And the need to paint, which is felt strongly physically or deeply in the hand, the arm… until it becomes essential. “Saying with colors” is also a weapon of peace. “Any woman can have access to the Rio Abajo Rio, that river under the river. It will be achieved through meditation, dancing, writing, painting, prayer, song, active imagination, or any activity requiring a different state of consciousness. It is because she desires and seeks something that she discerns out of the corner of her eye that she will find herself in this world-between-the-worlds. ” Women who run with wolves ”, by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, page 53-54, The Pocket Book, edition 29, 2020.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ARTISTIC CONCEPT:
I practice watercolor with more or less water, in a more or less spontaneous research. I can’t cover / hide with watercolor paint, it’s like the truth has to come through. Water is the common thread of my artistic work: the dosage of water which dilutes the watercolor pigments, inspiration from old prints by Japanese masters on the theme of the nature and the human. I make a dreamlike and personal representation of it. The ocean wave then carries with it poetry, emotions of colors … its movements speak of plant nature, the earth and changes. Water, sea and ocean are a constant source of inspiration in my life. I draw from it anxieties, fear and at the same time fascination. My fear of the depths springs back, and the nature nourishes me with its flowers, vegetation and trees. I practice describing its paradoxes with my brushes.
MATERIAL:
I use watercolor painting, brushes, easels, thick 300gr / m2 paper in a format of 50cm by 65cm, and 1m40 by 1m. I don’t do pencil drawings, no sketches. I only use my brushes. I also use oil painting on canvas measuring 50cm by 70cm.
