• The representation of ancient Greek goddesses inspired me several paintings. I had the desire to understand how the myths to which they belong can always touch us, by focusing especially on feminine archetypes. As in all my paintings, the nude is a way to get to the essential. Antique clothes are the folklore of which we have not liked the keys, and we cannot understand it with intuition alone. As an artist of the twenty-first century, I have used the symbols of the myth of Persephone in a very personal way, to arouse curiosity and intuitive feelings about this archetype that still has much to transmit to us.

Persephone embodies the cycle of death and renewal.  Daughter of Demeter, the young Persephone was kidnapped by Hades the king of the underworld. She is condemned to live 6 months a year underground with her husband, during which time her desperate mother makes winter reign. This myth explains the cycle of the seasons. It also symbolizes the evolution of a woman’s life, from the girl in conflict with her mother to whom she wants to please at the expense of her own aspirations, to the initiated woman capable of knowing herself, in its dark as well as luminous faces.

The abstract background of the painting symbolizes the two worlds, light and dark. The hands of the goddess are like puppets with the faces of the girl and the dead.  The rotating arms suggest the cycle that is renewed, the emotions that change from bright to dark and vice versa.
