• The title of this painting may seem surprising to those who do not see a train or railway. Yet he was inspired by a train journey at dusk, and by the vision of female passengers sitting one behind the other, each focused on her smartphone. I kept the sweet image of each traveler pleasantly immersed in her personal world. Music, messages, conversation, play… Technology allows everyone to enter a dreamy bubble of intimacy in the evening of a busy day, in front of the big sky that appears through the windows of the train, more important to me than the turn of the windows and the inside of the train, which I have removed. The sky is the unalterable, fundamental reference of our survival. For the air we breathe, our aspirations to fly away, to be free, to elevate our ideas, it is what we can never do without. The characters presented naked and bald are thus connected to their primary, timeless nature, according to which technology is not the absolute condition for survival.
As in all my paintings, the practical reality is far away. I want to evoke, to create an atmosphere, to confront situations that raise questions, but not to represent reality. So here the natural is confronted with technology and the question is: what does it change in us? I do not have a ready-made answer to that question.
