• This tiny painting is inspired by the symbolic idea of the lotus, emblematic flower of many Eastern spiritual traditions. The lotus grows in water and mud, and it transforms these elements into a beautiful flower that opens to the light.
Here the character uses his hands like a lotus flower placed on his head, which radiates a clear light and a possible connection to the spiritual world. This visualization is inspired by the posture of qi gong, millennial Chinese gymnastics whose goal is the harmonization of physical and spiritual energy. Qigong has inspired me in many paintings.
As in all my paintings, the character is presented naked. Qigong in reality is not practiced naked; But the benefit that one derives from it belongs to the subtle world of inner feeling, which is beyond all appearance. For me, the only way to approach it is to lay bare, simplicity, visualize light, and forget about the material world for the duration of a painting.
