• This work is a way of clarifying a state of inner consciousness. The staging reveals a situation that agitates the character. The hands are like puppets, one yellow and the other blue, two opposite primary colors.  They express through their movement an inner conflict and mimic animal heads as in Chinese shadow games.  A double plane appears that of thoughts represented by puppet hands, and that of emotion represented by disturbing projected shadows.

The woman’s body lies upwards, her eyes eagerly searching for an answer to her dilemma. Perhaps the Indian fable of the two wolves, which I discovered after painting the picture, could be this answer.  “One evening, an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson the story of the battle that exists in the heart of every human being and said, ‘Son, there is a battle between two wolves inside all of us. One is evil: it is anger, envy, jealousy, sadness, regret, greed, arrogance, shame, rejection, inferiority, lies, pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good: It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, caring, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The grandson thinks about this story for a moment and asks his grandfather, “Which of the two wolves wins? The old Cherokee replied simply, “The one you feed. » »

As always in my paintings, the character is naked and bald. This story of the inner dilemma is difficult to inscribe in one culture rather than another, one era rather than another. In each of my paintings, the naking is my way of approaching as closely as possible this inner world which is often universal.
