“This small surrealist painting plays on the authority of a young girl over a large subjugated fish. From the myth of Beauty and the Beast, to a vision where the fish symbolizes the unconscious, I let everyone interpret this imaginary portrait as they wish. The characters in my paintings are always naked and bald, beyond any historical reference. Defying the law of gravity and time, they invite us to look beyond the surface of things, the thread that connects the visible to the invisible, the body to the mind, reality to dreams. My artistic style belongs to surrealism. It has benefited from the influence of Dali and Modigliani, but also that of the symbolist Caspar David Friedrich, of ancient Khmer art and Egyptian art. For this painting, I sought beauty, simplicity, and access to a poetic world that evokes the depth of our inner dimension.”
